This site is funded by affiliate commission. Here is exactly what that means, where it could bias us, and what stops it.
In short
When you buy through a link here, the retailer pays us. You pay the same price.
- Nobody pays to be included in a guide, a table, or a ranking.
- You are not charged more for using our links than going direct.
- We publish unfavourable findings about products we earn commission on.
Where the money comes from
Affiliate commission, and eventually display advertising. When you click a link to a retailer and buy something, that retailer pays us a percentage of the sale. The price you pay is identical to the price you would have paid arriving there any other way.
- Manufacturer programmes. Brands including Gerbing, Volt, Ororo, Savior Heat and Venture Heat run their own affiliate programmes and pay a commission on sales referred from here.
- Amazon Associates. A smaller percentage across a wider range of products. batteryheatedgloves.com is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program.
- Display advertising. Ads shown alongside articles, sold by a third-party network. We do not choose which ads appear, and advertisers have no involvement in what we publish.
The obvious conflict
Commission is a percentage of the sale price. A $289 pair of gloves earns us more than a $99 pair. That is a real incentive to steer you toward the expensive option, and we would rather name it than pretend it does not exist.
Two things are meant to keep it in check. Measured figures get published whether or not they flatter the expensive option. And where a cheaper product is the better answer for a particular use, we say so, even though saying so costs us money.
That is a promise rather than a mechanism, and you should hold us to it. If the advice on this site ever tracks our commission rates rather than the evidence, we have failed and you should stop trusting it.
What we don’t do
- We do not accept payment for reviews, ratings, or placement in a comparison table.
- We do not publish sponsored posts, paid guest posts, or paid links.
- We do not remove or soften a negative review because a brand asked.
- We do not let a manufacturer see a review before publication.
- We do not write about products we have no basis for assessing.
Samples
We buy what we test wherever possible. Where a manufacturer supplies a sample, it is disclosed at the top of that review. Samples are not returned, are not sold, and are not treated as payment. Supplying one buys no influence over the rating or the ranking, and we tell manufacturers that before accepting anything.
How disclosure works on this site
Where you will see itAny article containing affiliate links carries a disclosure above the first link, not buried in the footer. Outbound commercial links are tagged so search engines can identify them as paid. The footer of every page carries a standing disclosure as well.
Why this page exists
Most affiliate sites bury this information or write it in language designed not to be read. The financial arrangement behind a recommendation is something you are entitled to know before you act on it, and stating it plainly costs us nothing worth keeping.
